Mesh must haves! This time I mean business!

I went to a casting recently where the theme was business chic. A great opportunity to exploit some more mesh goodies I've acquired in the past couple of weeks. These skinny flat fronted trousers from Celoe are great, and work well with the softly tailored jacket from Maitreya - I love the way the sleeves drape, and the skinny belt that nips in the waist, creating a softer, more feminine silhouette than the more traditional padded shoulders we associate with business suits.

Mesh must haves! (part one)

When mesh was enabled last autumn it met a very mixed response - some hailed it as a great step forward, a new tool for creators that gave them the ability to make clothing and objects with finer details, lower prim counts (or as they are now called "land impact") and the ability to make clothing that moves with the avatars body - no more hair sticking through bodies or dresses you can't sit down in.

Others were more sceptical - it made SL unstable, the clothing is bulky, it doesn't "swish" like flexis, you might have to change your shape to wear it, and people still using old viewers without mesh enabled can't see it, so you look odd to them - with strange egg shapes, boxes and invisible bits.

Even though mesh has been around for about 6 months now, and is clearly here to stay, I'm surprised how often I still hear the same old arguments rehearsed in group chat. I will admit to being a mesh fan from the start - I downloaded SL Viewer 3 the day mesh was enabled, and I even won the first ever contest (The Face of October Studios) where styling in mesh was the theme, back in September 2011.

Although the earlier mesh clothing did tend to be a little bulky looking, I had yearned to wear a maxi skirt that moved right, and thigh boots that I could walk in without looking like I had deformed knees! It was clear that, as with all new tools, it was only a matter of time before designers would develop their skills in order to fully exploit what mesh has to offer - and now there is a fantastic range of mesh available - clothing, shoes, hair, accessories, buildings and furniture.

So, I think it's about time for me to have a look at some of the fab mesh goodies on offer to today's fashionista in SL. First up is this casual but very chic look, just right for clubbing.

I'm wearing the new mesh Couture Leggins from Maitreya in yellow. These come in a fantastic range of colours and fabrics - shiny, suede and denim look, with 2 shape options - the couture option (shown here) includes boots, and there is an option for the more conventional ankle length legging so you can wear the footwear of your choice. I have a feeling these are going to be one of this season's fashion must have's. I'm wearing them with a top from coldLogic, an exclusively mesh store. This top is a hunt gift as part of the Fresh Unknown Hunt - all stores involved in this hunt have opened since November 2011, so it's a great way to find new talent. The hunt only runs till 31st March, so don't waste any time!

More Dressing Room Style...

I've made some good finds at the current collections at The Dressing Room and The Dressing Room Blue, so I thought it was about time I did another entry for The Dressing Room Stylish Contest. I love the vibrant blue of these rigged mesh leather jeans from R.icelli, and the big striped earrings and necklace from Glow Studio are a wonderful accessory for this season's trend for bright block colours. What you can't see in the pictures is that the sunglasses, also from Glow Studio, have animated textures on the lenses - a fab look for the beach or clubbing. There's a special edition Linn skin from Glam Affair at The Dressing Room this week too, for only 70ls!

Caught on camera! Heartsdale models

Nino Heartsdale, of House of Heartsdale fame (she who brought us the One in a Million Designer Challenge and Burlesque) has recently taken up the challenge of learning SecondLife machinima...and she's been using her pool of models as guinea pigs. I finally made it into the fourth of Nino's House of Heartsdale Models Portfolio films, each of which features 3 of the agency's models. I'm honoured to be sharing the runway with two beautiful models - Gamp Lane and Algezeras Magic. I think it's gorgeous! I hope you enjoy watching :D

New Styling Workshop at The Models Workshop

I've started running a monthly workshop on styling with Monica Balut at the Model's Workshop - Show Your Style is on the second Wednesday of the month at 4pm SLT.

It's a peer feedback session, where we style on a theme, share our styling choices and decisions, and give and receive constructive criticism. It's a great opportunity to get feedback, hone your styling skills, and learn of new designers and how other models approach to styling. All MW members are welcome, whether you are an experienced model, or just starting out..

The workshops last an hour - participants take it in turn to present their styling and a list or style card of their outfit and get feedback and comments from others.

The theme for April is Avant Garde mix and match - style as if you were casting for one of the top SL agencies. Creativity and originality are encouraged - this is a good place to take some risks! No off the rack outfits are expected!

The next Show Your Style workshop is on Wednesday 11th April at 4pm SLT in the Model's Workshop auditorium at the iC Motions sim

Please message me on Flickr or contact me inworld if you have any questions.

At our workshop for March the theme was Springtime Mix and Match - I'd been shopping at Collabor88 and picked up some yummy things that I wanted to use...I was late in putting this together, so I had to rush, I ended up mixing blue and browns, with a splash of green, in a pretty boho chic look.

Agnes Finney for Fashion For Life

Fashion For Life is open! YAY! And it's MASSIVE! This is the ultimate retail therapy, all the best of SL fashion all in one place, you can shop till you drop, and it's all for a very good cause!

This year Fashion For Life covers sim after sim of awesome fashion for your enjoyment, with every designer offering Fashion For Life exclusive items in special vendors where 100% of the price paid goes to The American Cancer Society. It only runs for 10 days, so make sure you schedule some time to get there. I spent a couple of hours there earlier, and it was nowhere near enough to see everything.

The gown I'm wearing is one of the FFL specials from My Precious by Agnes Finney.  Forever Yours is an appropriately romantically named formal gown in a pink print scattered with roses - the sweeping skirts and gathered ruffles on the bodice make this the kind of fairytale princess gown that little girls dream of.

It's Time...Fashion For Life 2012

Fashion for Life’ is the longest running and most successful fashion fair in Second Life ™ and marks the annual start of the official  ‘Relay for Life’ events that take place inworld each year.

All donations are given directly to the ‘Relay for Life’ general fund which benefits the ‘American Cancer Society’ and its thousands of beneficiaries who rely on the charity for support and advice. Fashion for Life is a hundred percent not for profit, and all organisation, building work and coordination are driven by the work of its volunteers which helps to maximise donated money.

This year, Fashion for Life spans an incredible TEN lag free sims with over 200 stores selling the latest fashions, accessories, hair and unique designer items made especially for this event. There will also be gacha areas, a hunt, a raffle and a SALE - all with the end goal of raising funds for the American Cancer Society via SL.

The sims will be laid out in a cross formation and will represent the theme “Its Time…” with builds representing stages in time:  past, present, future and timeless. All building and landscaping have been created by some of SL’s top designers and builders to produce a beautiful environment for your charity shopping sprees!

Alongside the fabulous fashion, there will be a sim dedicated to providing a minimum of 12 hours entertainment and activities every day, so you can socialise, have fun and meet new people too.The sims have been kindly sponsored by ‘Dream Seeker Estate Corporation' which has drastically reduced admin expenses, helping to free up even more money for Relay for Life.

Harper Beresford, Fashion for Life Lead executive says: "Fashion for Life is not just about fashion and it's not just about fund raising-it's about supporting the members of our community in SL who have been touched by cancer."

Sheer elegance

This is the gorgeous Kerasia gown in Champagne, the latest release from Mohna Lisa Couture.

In rigged mesh and traditional prims, the spectacular sheer texture hugs your body and glistens with tiny sparkles, while the translucent prim skirt and embellishment swirl as you move. I've included a shot of the gown without the prim skirt, and, as you can see, it looks fabulous either way.

I've been wearing it without the prim skirts around the grid today, and I've been asked about it everywhere I've been! This one is definitely a head-turner!
