Ganguro

Ganguro, the theme set by Bluebell, winner of  the Model's Workshop styling challenge a couple of weeks back, had many of us running for Google. I found this in Wikipedia : "Ganguro appeared as a new fashion style in Japan in the early 1990s and to date is prevalent mostly among young women. In ganguro fashion, a deep tan is combined with hair dyed in shades of orange to blonde, or a silver grey known as "high bleached". Black ink is used as eye-liner and white concealer is used as lipstick andeyeshadow. False eyelashes, plastic facial gems, and pearl powder are often added to this. Platform shoes and brightly-coloured outfits complete the ganguro look. Also typical of ganguro fashion are tie-dyed sarongs, miniskirts, stickers on the face, and many bracelets, rings, and necklaces." There's quite an array of images on the net. It's an incredibly photogenic look, even though, breaking all the rules as it does, it really shouldn't be. When I look at the deep fake tan faces with white eyes and lips, I think anti-geisha - this style is a parody of fashion, yet it can look incredibly cute, vibrant and stylish at the same time.

This was a great fun look to style. The challenge was to create a look that was true to the theme while remaining chic - this is what I ended up with. Luckily I found alomost everything I needed in my inventory already - with the exception of the boots (not shown in picture) which I bought specifically for this look. Ganguro is all about styling - it's how the things are worn that makes the look.

The key element of ganguro is the hair - this is Veruka II from Magika. It comes with a mirror option - so I wore both, and added the pink and orange streaks. The crochet hair flowers come with the Roxi Rose dress from The Sea Hole. I slapped on a tan skin from Glam Affair, and used makeup from Pdiddle - Incognito set.

Working down, the necklaces are the Crystal Long necklace from LaGyo, Beachwear Necklace Ball in yellow from Cheerno, and beachwear Collar in fantasy, also from Cheerno. The loose tank and pink denim mini skirt  are from So Many Styles for The Dressing Room. The bangles are Magnifique from Je Suis, and the nails are Fashion Nails Easter from A+A for The Dressing Room, and the rings are Elegance Rings Series from Mons.
