Indian summer

This is Sabyn, the latest release from Kimmera Madison of Tres Beau, a stunning mesh ensemble of harem pants, a loose camisole and a black net and lace vest worn underneath. In lush, rich colours (shown here in red, but also available in fucshia and in blue) with elaborate gold detailing, and rich texturing on the pants, this outfit is dressy enough for a special party, while being casual enough for clubbing
- absolutely beautiful work!

Group special offer from Maitreya

I'm loving the new rigged mesh hair from Lelutka at the moment. Long and sleek, it's available in fashionable "fade" colour options, as well as the usual range of natural colours. This is the first rigged mesh hair I've needed to wear the alpha layer with, and my eyelashes needed a little tweaking so they don't poke through, but, as someone blessed with thick wavy hair in real life, I've got to say it's worth it!

I dropped into Maitreya earlier this week and discovered they have released their mesh Radical boots in suede. They have a special offer for group members with 70% off the Radical Suede Boots in Chamoisee, a delicious go-with-anything tan, so I couldn't resist grabbing a pair. There are also a couple of mesh group gifts out at the moment - eyelashes and a pencil skirt, and as the group is free to join, it could be worth taking up one of your precious group slots for!

Style notes:

Once upon a time...

Once upon a time there was an ordinary girl who liked to her dreams she was a beautiful, willowy princess who lived in an enchanted forest, where money grew on trees, everybody loved everybody, and all the best fashion designers flocked to visit her and make her gifts of their very best designs...

You can probably guess that I've been shopping at Fairytales in 2012, brought to us by Aida Ewing of Glam Affair fame - a small(ish) shopping event with a select collection of designers selling designs created with a fairytale theme. Some of my favorite designers are there, including Glam Affair, LaGyo and So Many Styles. I had great fun putting together this boho fairytale princess look, and took myself off to the beautiful Alirium sim to take some photos in a magical forest.

Drama Queen

In Second Life I like to think of myself as a drama free zone - apart from in styling, where a little drama can be a mighty good thing! It's been a busy week for me, with lots of time spent styling and choosing poses for various shows and pageants, and absolutely no time for shopping, so it was a blessed relief to grab a few minutes earlier today for a bit of retail therapy at Diram.

This is Brigitte, a new mesh dress from Diram. I just adore the cut and lines of this short mini dress with its exaggerated shoulders and over sized pussy bow - utterly contemporary, but with a retro feel, it's pure drama, of the best kind. This is one of those statement pieces that every fashionista should have in her wardrobe.

Dress them up, dress them down - from casual and sporty to tailored and chic, the romper is this season's go anywhere garment.

Mesh designers coldLogic have turned their talents to creating a collection of romper suits that will take you from chilling at home to that important lunch date in style. With 3 different styles, and lots of different print and colour combinations, the rompers come in standard sizing (and they fit well) and there is something to suit every taste.

I picked a couple of designs for this post - first up, I chose the smart, tailored Rae in plum and pewter. This crossover romper has wide legs and elbow length sleeves with a sexy slash, and a wide tie belt to accentuate those curves - I styled with the new updo from Lelutka, over sized shades, high heels and simple silver jewellery for a cool, city chic look.

Style notes:
Romper: coldLogic - Rae /plum/pewter
Shoes: Sim-i-Lar - Angelica /wine leather
Hair: LeLutka - Belle /powder
Shades: Izzie's - Oversized Sunglasses /colour change
Necklace: Maxi Gossamer - Babette - combo medium /ivory/silver
Bangles: Maxi Gossamer - Boho Bangles /laquered etched silver

For my second look, I went to the other end of the spectrum with Room, in lilac. With a white trim, buttoned neckline, racer back, and side split shorts this romper shouts sporty casual, so I kept it simple with braided hair in a loose ponytail from Wasabi Pills, shades from Nyu, and very simple jewellery - just right for hanging out round the pool!

Style notes:
Romper: coldLogic - Room /lilac
Hair: Wasabi Pills - Anais Mesh Hair /Seafoam
Shades: Nyu - Nicole Sunglasses /Lights
Bangle: TDR Special Cool Bangle II (current collection)
Earrings: Maxi Gossamer - Love Heart /gold
Necklace: Maxi Gossamer - Eden Sun Pendant - Mini Orbit /long

Open your heart, open your mind...

It's a special day for me today because my blog just reached over 20,000 views! Thank you so much! it's an amazing feeling, and incredibly motivating, knowing my work has been seen by so many people from all over the world, so I'm going to keep it up, and hopefully keep it interesting and keep getting better!

As it's a special day, I think the time is right for something a little different. I had a very busy weekend in the real world, and didn't get much time to check out Second Life or Flickr, so when I finally got to log on today, I was so pleased to see a new campaign that's started. STAND4LOVE is the brainchild of Editorial Clarity-Flux, and RicoRacer Flux-Clarity that aims to raise awareness and challenge homophobia, supporting campaigns for recognition of same-sex marriage across the globe.

In Second Life I meet many people who use it as a platform to explore living differently from the way they do in the real world - playing with gender identity and different forms of relationships. While that's a positive in a way, it's also quite sad that people have to resort to an anonymous, online environment to explore these aspects of themselves, usually because of fear of how they would be treated in real life if they were to be open about their feelings.

And we have to acknowledge that, even in the most "tolerant" and liberal of western societies, homophobia, along with other forms of hatred, still functions, still hurts people, and still leaves many people isolated and afraid to be who they really are. Those fears are real.

It's a very topical issue here in the UK, because the Government has announced an intention to legislate to recognise same-sex marriages, and this has brought out many homophobic voices, speaking in the name of the Church, arguing, for example, that gay marriage will undermine the very fundamentals of the Church of England (and, as a result, undermine the very state itself!).

When I was at school, I thought I learnt that the fundamentals of Christianity were to "love thy neighbour as thyself", I really don't recall learning anything about Jesus preaching very much at all about who should or shouldn't love who, or how.

It's always seemd very ironic to me that those voices that shout loudest about preserving the current discriminatory position, whereby lesbian and gay relationships are not afforded the same legal recognition as heterosexual marriage, in the name of Christianity, are strangely silent on the subject of homophobic bullying in schools, as well as the many other forms of hate that are still prevalent in our society - actions that go directly against the doctrine of "love thy neighbour".

I want to live in a world where everyone is free to love and be loved in return, where all forms of love between consenting adults is accepted, respected and valued, and where bigotry and hatred are things of the past. A world that has no place for hate.

So, I have to congratulate Ed and Rico for organising this campaign, and ask everyone who reads this post to do something to show your support - visit the STAND4LOVE blog to find out how to get involved, or facebook like or tweet this post to get more readers - it's a small thing, but small things can make big changes in the end! Open your heart, open your mind, and stand for love today!

Yummy Yasum

I've long been an admirer of Azlyn Vaher of Yasum - her designs are distinctive, original and beautifully textured, so I was delighted when she contacted me and invited me to review one of her latest mesh releases. Snatch is a complete outfit, including cropped top, armwarmers, shawl pants and shoes, shown here in black leather with a slight checkerboard texture. Azlyn makes her own meshes, rather than retexturing templates, so you won't see these designs all over SL. It's an eyecatching ensemble that will take you from shopping to clubbing in Yasum's characteristic style. Nice work Azlyn!

I've kept the styling simple with this suit, with some stylish cool beige chunky jewellery, including the newly released Voyante long necklace from Je Suis, that completes this uber chic mesh set, new shades and bag from Nyu Nyu, and the gorgeous new unrigged mesh hair from Vanity Hair, that I love for it's simplicity and shine.

Bargain of the month at Collabor88!

Lots of photos for this post - I hope it doesn't take too long to load - but I just HAD to show you my bargain of the month find for June!

I'm a regular visitor at Collabor88, the monthly collection featuring special themed releases of clothing, skins, skyboxes, furniture, poses and accessories at knockout prices from resident contributors and special guests. It's always worth checking out.

The theme for June is "Shindig" and the place is positively bursting with colour. I didn't realise until I got there, but the special guest for June is none other than Glam Affair - makers of my favourite skins! They have released this gorgeous skin, Mia Disco, with 3 special makeups for the event!

Not only the gorgeous skin, that is retailing at only L$188,  Glam Affair has released this sweet asymmetric mesh summer dress, Zoe, in several dazzling bright colours that tone with the skins, and some mesh pants for men in the same colour palette, for L$88 each!

I couldn't resist buying all 3 skins at that price, and I bought 3 dresses to wear with them - such a fresh, on trend look for the summer. I kept the styling simple with monochrome earrings and big bangles, long nails in matching brights, and platform pumps.

For makeup, I added eyeliner from Miamai (I can't live without my eyeliner!) and these succulent lip glosses, newly released by blackLiquid Makeup for Chic2 in a range of sheer shades that give a stunning wet look shimmer to the lips. Perfect for any disco dolly!

CHIC² sneak peek!

On 4th June 2012 Chic Management (that brings us Culture Shock, Vintage Fair and Back to Black amongst others) is two years old. To celebrate, from 3rd -  24th June, there will be a small venue based event at an intimate grassroots venue with 150 of the best loved Chic clients. Each brand has one new and exclusive item with the theme of Chic available only at CHIC² until the end of the event.

I've been lucky enough to be selected as an official blogger for CHIC², so I've had a chance to take a peek at the goodies on offer - and, predictably, there's some good stuff! The venue has been cleverly designed too, with all the vendors in cubes in a big circle, so it's possible to stay still and cam around to see everything, which should make lag a lot less of a nightmare!
