What a feeling!

Vintage Fair 2012 is coming! Brought to us by Chic Management, and sponsored by Aura, Belleza, Cheeky Pea, coldLogic, Gizza Creations, Indyra Originals, PurpleMoon Creations, oOo Studio and Trompe L'oeil, Vintage Fair 2012 will be open from 4th-29th August, bringing together over 250 designers across 3 sims, with special vintage and retro designs inspired by the 1920'2-1980's.

It's going to be awesome!

There's a big Vintage Fair Flickr Contest too, with an impressive and growing prize list. The first photo on this post is my entry - visit the contest Flickr Group and check out all the wonderful photos there. Even better, if you like my photo, give me a favourite star or make a comment on Flickr!

In these photos I'm wearing one of the exclusive releases from Xi Zane of Lush*Limited for the Vintage Fair. I was so honoured when Xi asked me to shoot her vendor picture for this outfit for the fair!

Called Flash Dance, inspired by the eighties film of the same name, the outfit comprises a baggy mesh sweatshirt, opaque tights and bright knitted legwarmers - fantastic for a gym workout or an 80's themed party.

I decided to try to recreate some of the iconic images from the film, and a quick search came up with a sweet pose set from Focus Poses called Flashdance, so I built myself a little dance studio and got snapping. I'm so happy with the results on this one!

And just to make you smile, and get into that Flashdance vibe, check out this hilarious YouTube video of British comedian Robert Webb dancing to What a Feeling for Comic Relief in 2009!

Fellini Couture and Headturners @ Hope for Emilia

Some more fab finds from the Hope For Emilia Fashion Fair - this time some couture glamour.

Fellini Couture has released this exclusive edition of their stunning Tentation gown in black and white - this mesh creation consists of a mesh skirt and corset with a daring sculpted bodice of cut out leaves, and opera length gloves. It works perfectly with the Couture Lace Mask from Headturners, also available at Hope for Emilia.

The fashion fair continues until 9th August, well worth a visit for some great exclusive items, with all proceeds going to support those affected by the eathquakes in Italy.

As most of the world is aware, the northern region of Italy has been hit by devastating earthquakes since May. The impact of these earthquakes has been terrible: 26 people died, and thousands are homeless, living in tents. The whole economy of the country was brought to its knees.

Fashion shows highlighting the exclusive items are planned for July 29th and August 5th.

There will also be an Art Exhibition starting on August 3rd, at which artistic creations from the grid’s most accomplished artists will be on display and available for purchase.

Simply chic

There's nothing quite as stylish as black and white for a cool chic look for summer. I found this simple vest top romper suit in a soft white with a loose black tie belt and taper legs from Glam Affair at July's Collabor88. Keeping it simple I added a loose scarf from the current collection at The Dressing Room (it came in yellow, so I recoloured it) black mules, a black leather tote bag and some sixties styled sunglasses. Pretty gold beaded earrings from LaGyo and a chunky gold bangle from .s h i complete the look.

I'm wearing a new skin from Glam Affair, also released at Collabor88. This is Roza, in natural, that comes with 3 subtle makeups for L$188 each - I'm loving the sleek softness of this skin, and the subtle glow - I hope this one will be released as a full edition.

Erotica

No, I'm not taking this blog in a new adult direction, nor am I paying homage to Madonna's album of the same name, though thoughts might turn to both when you try on the latest gown from Mohna Lisa Couture.

This gown is pure sex. Erotica is a shimmering sheath of fine transparent net that clings to every curve and glistens with hundreds of tiny sparkles when you move. Mohna Lisa's trademark sparkles are difficult to capture in a photo - this really needs to be seen inworld to get the full effect. In rigged mesh, with a demo available, the gown comes with a colour changing hud to match it to your skin tone, so you really do get that 'I'm almost naked' see-through effect. Wear if you dare on that hot date!

More easy summer styling from me today, with this dreamy boho look. Zaara have released their first mesh design, this soft, loose tunic that drapes beautifully. Moody blues...

As summer settles in with those lovely long, balmy evenings, my fashion urges turn to cool, relaxed casuals. The lovely ladies of LUSH Limited have just released these easy, blue striped mesh pants in a silky texture that gives a nod in the direction of pajama pants, but a little more tailored.  I've styled them with a cute halter top from TuttiFrutti with a retro wiggly stripes and dots pattern (these come in a great range of retro patterns and colours), and gone for loads of beads, big big earrings and lime green shades to finish the look.  Now for a leisurely stroll in the dappled sunset at the Where it Begins sim...

Vital Statistics Take 2

It's about a year since Strawberry Singh took the radical step of asking us to share our digits, and I jumped on the bandwagon along with hundreds of others. My blog post sharing my vital statistics has been my most popular of all time, with over 1,200 views to date!

A year on, with the advent of rigged mesh, Berry has once again laid down the challenge to share our digits, and has asked some questions about how the mesh revolution has influenced our avatar shapes.

1. How has the introduction of mesh affected your SL, if at all? Are you open to wearing mesh often or do you still shy away from it?

Anyone who reads my blog regularly will know I love wearing good quality rigged mesh clothing - in fact, these days I find myself not wanting to buy or wear anything else. I love the way rigged mesh corsets can actually reduce your waist, the detailing that's possible with mesh, and the way mesh moves with me.

But there are good and bad mesh designers, and I have a few pet peeves. Some mesh clothing simply will not fit, even if you make your shape so skeletal you look positively anorexic, particularly when you move. And I hate gaping alpha layers. If I can, I wear rigged mesh without alphas, and I'm becoming adept at using different alphas to get a good fit. I have also resorted to making my own glitch pants for a skirt I had to wear for a fashion show, as no walk I could find in SL would stop it from splitting when I walked!

I have learnt always to buy a demo when considering a mesh purchase - and if there's no demo, I just won't buy - I learnt that the hard way after wasting my lindens one time too many!

2.  Have you changed your shape to fit into mesh? If so, did you get bigger or smaller?

For me there have been some changes, but I think they are as much to do with becoming a professional model as they are to do with the arrival of mesh. I am a little taller (gigantic according to the avatar ruler!) but actually still on the short side for a runway model.  My head is a little larger, which has an impact on the overall proportions of my shape, making me look a little slimmer, and my breasts are smaller. I have kept my waist small and my hips relatively wide, to maintain some curves. I'm very happy with my overall proportions now.

One other important point here - I actually tweak my shape all the time - in much the same way as I reduce my butt size to wear old fashioned system skirts (the ones that make your butt look enormous if left at it's regular size). I might, for example, make my shape a little shorter and curvier for a lingerie photo, or taller for a runway show. And yes, I do sometimes change it to fit mesh. What I don't change is my face. That is what makes my avatar "mine". other than that, I see no real difference between editing the pixels on my body and editing prims on an item of clothing - they're all pixels in the end, and the "save as" button is a wonderful thing!

3. Do you think the mesh deformer will resolve a lot of the issues people seem to have with mesh and will it encourage you to wear mesh more often, if you don't already?

As I understand it, the mesh deformer will make it possible for mesh to be rigged to the "soft tissue" measurements (muscle, fat) as well as the skeleton, as it is now. If it works, it will surely make it easier to fit mesh clothing and require less tweaking of avatar shapes, which must be a good thing, and will allow for more individuality. But I can see other issues emerging - the possibility of textures looking stretched and distorted with more extreme avatar shapes, for example.

I guess there will always be a balance, whatever type of pixel clothing we choose to wear, between the shape the designer had in mind when they created an item, and the shape of the avatar that wants to wear it. In the end, when it comes to fashion, maybe Second Life is more like real life than we care to admit!

All change!

It's all change at October's Trending Fashion Chamber, as the new cycle begins today. One of the great finds in July's collection is this colour change mesh suit from LIV-Glam. Smart enough for any business meeting, sexy enough to make a lasting impression, the suit comes as a separate jacket and skirt with an easy to use hud that enables you to choose literally any colour for either or both, making this a fantastic investment piece.

In the mood for some more colour changing, I styled the suit with Cathy pumps from Redgrave - these come with 12 colour choices for the heels, toes and main body of the shoes, and shine or not options as well, giving you a massive range of options in one pair of shoes. And in keeping with the theme, I added new colour change pearls from Maxi Gossamer and nails from Sexy Mama, that also come with hud controlled colour change.

Both these looks have the same basic elements, with just a change of hair and bag! Fab for styling on the go!

Burlesque Couture

Maybe I was a showgirl in a former life, because one way I love to dress up is in burlesque style - corsets, ruffles and frills always thrill and delight me, it's a theme I keep coming back to.  The advent of rigged mesh and alpha layers in SL has meant corsets have become a whole lot better, with realistic waist reduction for that ultra feminine tight laced line that puts all the curves in just the right places.

Chandra Meehan, the evil genius behind !dM deviousMind (OK, she's actually very nice, but that doesn't have the same ring to it!) has just released her first mesh based outfit "Coco Mon Coeur". The corset is mesh and comes in standard sizzes, and Chandra has thoughtfully provided a few different alpha layers so you can find one to best suit your shape. There are 3 flexi skirt options, and some frilly knickers are provided too in case you want to wear the corset without a skirt. It also comes with pretty pearl adornments at the neckline and round the hips, and a heavy pearl necklace completes the look.

I'm wearing new hair from blackLiquid for the Couturiers Dock - this extravagant sculpted style is perfect for a showgirl look, but will also provide a fantastic finish for an avant garde runway look. I took myself off to the derelict theatre in the Looking Glass sim to take some photos, and while I was there, I was inspired to put together a second showgirl look, more of which very soon!
