Fallen Angel

Mohna Lisa has done it again with his latest release, Fallen Angel. It's an utterly divine gown, with a dramatic cutaway bodice that flares at the hip to an extravagant, sweeping train edged with Mohna Lisa Couture's trademark shimmering, sparkles. Simply stunning. So much so, I couldn't decide on just 2 photos to use for this post - so here are 4! I think the photos speak for themselves - this is one sure-fire show stopper of a gown.

Fallen Angel comes only in black, and there are 2 options. The classic, shown here, and the cocktail, without the train, but a more form fitting frilled full length skirt. They are available individually, or as a fatpack of both styles. Black opera gloves are also included, though I decided to go for silver this time. Did I say I love this gown?

Style notes:
Gown: Mohna Lisa Couture - Fallen Angel Classic
Gloves: Mimikri - Cuff Gloves /silver
Earrings: Gems and Kisses - Meraviglia - Bea Edition (no longer available for sale)
Makeup: White Widow - Face Tattoo - Berlingot /BW with eye makeup

It's bright, very bright, bold and not for the faint hearted. The real world fashion trend for colour blocking, that appeared in summer 2011 and has continued into this year, is making a big splash in virtual fashion this season, with the Color Blocking Fair 2012 coming in June, and lots of vibrant accessories, clothes and cosmetics in the stores.

My starting point for my colour block look was this pretty red mesh mini dress from Celoe. The fit on this one is great - so much so that I don't have to use the alpha layer - so I get to wear knickers again, instead of walking round with that horrible void between my legs I'm usually forced to have these days!

I accessorized with Orbital collar, bangles and nails in cabaret (hot pink), tangerine and solar (yellow), newly released at blackLiquid in an extraordinary range of shades, and makeup from LUSH Limited, a special edition for the Color Blocking Fair - I love these soft matte pink and orange duo toned lips. Tights and wedges from Tee*fy, found this week at designer bargain outlet The Dressing Room Blue, complete the look. I'm loving the way these colours pop!

Style notes:
Dress: Celoe - April dress /pinup
Tights: Tee*fy - Yellow Ombre Tights (come with the wedges)
Shoes: Tee*fy - Color Blocking Wedges (from The Dressing Room Blue)
Collar, bangles and nails: blackLiquid - Orbital

Gonna be a long hot summer

It's looking like it's going to be a long, hot summer, and my thoughts turn to lazy days on the beach, with the warm breeze tousling my hair and fresh sea water cooling my toes.

Nevery Lorakeet of Les petits Details has come up trumps again with her latest mesh release - Whisper - soft baggy pants that come in both solid and transparent options. Perfect summer casuals with a boho chic touch, that can take you from the beach to the bar in style.

I went to Las Islas to take these shots,  probably the best tropical beaches in Second Life!

Cool summer chic from Creations for Parkinson's

It's pretty hot here in London this week (at last we have some sun!) and I felt like dressing in cool white linen! I spent a very pleasant SL afternoon exploring and shopping in the recently opened Creations for Parkinson's sim, that aims to raise money and awareness for the Michael J Fox Foundation (MJFF).

The sim is a permanent location, not a temporary event, and will raise funds for MJFF through a variety of methods, including a 50/50 sales split with designers in the shopping area; live music events; various social activities and donation boxes, which are set up around the sim for visitors to donate to the cause. It's a lovely sim, with plenty to explore, some pretty nooks and crannies to enjoy, and some good shopping, with several boutique style stores to visit.

While I was there I spotted this lovely mesh blouse and skirt from AlaFolie, perfect for my cool summer chic look - they're available in a range of bright colours, as well as black and white, and there's a knee length version of the skirt as well. I'm liking the frills on this blouse - nice work, and taking mesh design a step further in detailing I think! I decided to accessorise with tan and beige toned shoes, shades and jewellery and the fab beige toned wide brim summer hat, rather than going for a completely monochrome look this time, and I'm liking it lots.

Style notes:
Blouse: AlaFolie - MORGANE /Blanc from Creations for Parkinsons
Skirt: AlaFolie - MI COURTE /blanc  from Creations for Parkinsons

His and hers with Ayrton Radikal

A couple of weeks back I guested on my friend and House of Heartsdale colleague, Kellis Denismore's blog in a series of doubles she is doing. I wish I'd had the idea, as it makes for fun and interesting posts. And then, it occurred to me - we don't see a lot of male and female models styling together, so why not team up with some of SL's gorgeous male models? So, this is the first in what I hope will be an occasional series featuring "his and hers" styling.

Ayrton Radikal kindly agreed to be my guinea pig, and showed me this great Gaultier inspired look he had put together using furs from Bliss Couture and sequin leggings from Mimikri. I did a lightening shopping trip, and styled my female version of his look using the same designers. This one is fab on both men and women - and what a way for you and your date to make a grand entrance at that hot club or party!

Style notes:

Ayrton wears:
Coat: Bliss Couture Homme! - Galliano Fur Coat /black
Pants: Mimikri - Sequin Leggins Stella /antique gold
Gloves: Miamai - Prim Gloves Homme /Black.
Boots: Hoorenbeek - Dupree Men  /Black.
Piercing:  Mandala - Soul Ear Piercing /Gold.
Necklace: Mandala - Soul Necklace /Male /Gold

Bea wears:
Coat: Bliss Couture Fur - Babii Fur Jacket /Black
Pants: Mimikri - Sequin Leggins Stella /antique gold
Top: Epoque - Lace Onesie /Black
Boots: Ten"10 - Megas boots /Black
Hair: Epoque - Warrior /genetic
Piercing: Mandala - Sinra Piercing /vintage gold
Necklace: Mandala - Hannya Necklace /Gold
Bangles and Nails: Mandala - Takara /inca gold

Oh, and I must say a big THANK YOU to the dashing Ayrton Radikal for helping me with this - it was no work at all swooning there in your arms (in fact I was kind of hoping it would have taken a bit longer :P)! And wow! what a gorgeous avatar you have! Mwah!

I'm wearing Vero Modero's Eleaf. Part of the new collection, it's a beautiful gown that sheaths the body in satin, wrapped with layer upon layer of delicate chiffon. Eleaf comes with gloves, a veil and large and small rose hair attachments, giving you some options for creating your special look.

So, me and my good friend, model Mezzo Silverweb, were doing a bit of leisurely Saturday shopping when we got a gift from a group we're both in - MOCK cosmetics.  Now, if you're not already in Mock's group, you really should join. For a small fee you receive bundles of goodies on a regular basis. Mocksoup is VERY generous to her group members - well worth using a group slot for!

We check out the skins, and the first we try is called Kinyotta. Mezzo and I are usually white, but this skin looked pretty good, and with a bit of shape tweaking, we decided to do a little shoot to show off our radically new looks. One of the best things about Second Life is the ability to transform your avatar into anything you can imagine, and it's so refreshing to be able to literally step into another skin and see that transformation before your eyes!

I'd recently been sent a lot of review copies of cosmetics and hair from Xi Zane of LUSH, and I'd been dying to try them out - so this seemed the perfect opportunity to do just that. With their vibrant colours and tribal themes, LUSH cosmetics are fantastic for dark skins - though the lipsticks and lashes look great with my usual pale too. LUSH is a pretty new label, but Xi is fast establishing herself as a serious talent with unique and sassy makeup and accessories that are a treasure for any stylista.

Style notes:

Bea wears:

Hate Me And Eat Me

I only heard of new label Hate Me And Eat Me  (H.M.A.E.M.) when designer Riri Bazar collaborated with Nevery Lorakeet of Les petits Details recently. When I spotted Riri's photo of her new mesh dress on Flickr, I decided to go and take a look. It's a small collection, but I managed to come away with the dress, some funky platform shoes and these fab sunglasses! I picked up some groovy makeups too, but I'm saving them for later...and I'm looking forward to more from H.M.A.E.M.

My "Model Moment" on Metaverse TV

Metaverse TV have started a new series of short films celebrating the talents of the virtual model. Directed and filmed by the mistress-mind of House of Heartsdale,  Nino Heartsdale herself, these are a kind of mini portfolio, enabling models to show their talents to a wider audience. So much more than a set of stills shots, a video can show your style and modeling skills to the best.

After much deliberation, and trying different looks, I decided to go for a white and silver theme for my video, starting with white lingerie from Epoque, spiky heels and spiky hair. Next is a casual chic outfit combining Maitreya's mesh Couture Leggings and the simple Clark shirt from ColdLogic with long straight mesh hair from Wasabi Pills. For formal is chose the gorgeous silver mesh gown from Rebel Hope and a stylish updo from Osmose. Finally, something a little more avant garde, with a top from CheerNo over a bodysuit and tights from Nemesis and futuristic boots from sYs. This look is completed with a stylish bob from Kik hair and avant garde makeup from Loveli Mi and blackLiquid.

The Ashraya Project in Second Life is the fundraising initiaitive of reigning Miss Virtual World, Anna Sapphire.  Meaning "shelter" Ashraya is an organisation in India that provides accommodation and support to destitute children and women. It's good to see a fundraiser that supports a small specialist charity as opposed to the big international players that SL charitable work usually targets.

This is a fashion oriented event, with over 80 designers creating exclusive items on sale for the charity. There are some lovely finds there, like this elegant shift dress from exclusive mesh designer NYU, and wonderful summery wide brimmed hats in pretty pastels from Les petits Details (I liked them so much I had to buy all three!) Retail therapy that's extra good for the soul!

Style notes:

At the Ashraya Project:
Dress: NYU - Ashraya Dress, Sakura
Hat: Les petits Details - Summer Breeze Hat /Pink Tones

Shoes: Sim-I-lar Footwear - Lucca /white patent (mesh)
Necklace: LaGyo - Paisley necklace silver (for Culture Shock)
Bag: Haute Monde - Mesh Flap Clutch/white (only avalable on Marketplace)
Hair: Lelutka - Roma /powder (mesh)
Makeup: Izzie's - Smokey 2 eyeliner
blackLiquid Makeup - BOMBSHELL Bardot lips matte
Nails: Mandala Option Long Nails /pale skin

*once again Second Life appears to be unable to create SURLs today - this is becoming a depressingly familiar event, so I can't add SURLs for the other items I'm afraid! BUT if you search this blog, you will find links to all the designers listed on other posts. Sorry!

Culture Shock

I braved the lag and made it into Culture Shock, one of the 3 big charity shopping events starting this weekend. Organised by Chic Management, Culture Shock brings together 80+ designers who have produced exclusive items for sale in aid of Medecins Sans Frontieres, the international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion and natural or man-made disasters.

Like any big event in Second Life, you will have to be ready to face some lag when you attend - so strip off those primmy attachments and get your scripts down to the bare minimum - but if you can cope with waddling around in a bikini (and let's face it, most people won't be able to see you anyway!) it's well worth it, with some great stuff available from familiar names, and some new (to me at least) designers to discover.

Style notes:

(only available at Culture Shock)

Swimsuit: Aleida - Fatima bathsuit /brown
Knittted vest: Ladies Who Lunch - Muertos Layering Vest/pale (mesh)
Turban: 22769 - [femme] the badu 3 (mesh)

Nails: Pididdle - manicure - Set 003 - currently on sale at The Summer Beauty Festival

For as long as I can remember, I've been enthralled by the allure of the blonde bombshell. Glamourous, seductive and dazzling, there's something timeless and irresistible for me about this particular iconography of feminine beauty. It's very much a 20th Century phenomena, born of the movies (maybe because this colouring works particularly well on celluloid?) the phrase was first used to describe Jean Harlow, who starred in a film of that name in 1933.

From Monroe to Madonna, every decade produced it's own blonde bombshell. Brigitte Bardot, the French sex kitten, with her sultry, smoky eyes and pale, full,  pouty lips, was the bombshell of the sixties and seventies. Wonderful inspiration, then, for this makeup from blackLiquid - the first in a series called Bombshell - and I can't wait to see what's next in this series from the talented Mz Black!

It's unusual for me to start styling a look from the makeup, but that's how it happened this time. I was just trying it on when I saw a notice about this new release from Les Petits Details - Paris - a super stylish mix of mesh (skirt) and prims (stole) that comes in all black, all white or smoke, a mix of the 2 (shown here). The gorgeous Valerie hair from Tabata Jewell, jewellery from Donna Flora, simple pumps and a white clutch bag complete the look.  Tres chic, I hope you agree!

Style notes:
Makeup: blackLiquid makeup - Bombshell Bardot face gloss
Lashes: blackLiquid makeup - Lashy
Dress: LpD - Paris Dress /Smoke (Shirt Layer)
Hair: Vanity Hair - Valerie /Platinum
Jewellery: Donna Flora - Blue

Madame Butterfly

Sometimes a garment leaps out at me, right off the vendor pic, and I know I HAVE to have it. Mohna Lisa Couture's special edition gown - Genesis Madame Butterfly - is one of them. The delicate butterfly and dragonfly print on gold silk is in such refreshing spring colours, and the cut is risque but flattering, with it's cut out bodice and slashed to the hip long skirt. The gown comes with a sparkling wrap and a shoulder embellishment (not shown), giving you some options for how to wear it. This is a wonderful gown for making a grand entrance!

Mohna Lisa designed this special edition gown, inspired by Puccini's opera of the same name, for the Opera Meets Couture event held on April 15th to raise donations for the Academy of Music and Education. The gown is now available for sale at the Mohna Lisa Couture main store.

Speaking of Madame Butterfly, you might enjoy listening to this! Malcolm McLaren's awesome track of the same name from 1984 - well ahead of it's time. The video is simply stunning!
